Lincoln is crawling?!?

I would have put money on the fact that Lincoln was not going to crawl. He never acted like he wanted to. He had finally figured out how to sit up from laying down and has been pulling up and cruising around the furniture for a couple of months now. I had convinced myself that I didn't even care if he ever crawled because I really didn't think he ever would. All of that changed this past Monday. My mom left him in the den while he was finishing up his bottle (we are working on that but now Lincoln is anti-sippy cup at the moment) and went into the kitchen. Next thing she knows, Lincoln is in the kitchen with her! He crawls and cruises all day long now. We were very spoiled in that he would play in one location and pretty much stay there but that is certainly not the case now. The following pictures are what happened in the span of one afternoon at our house.
Lincoln is obsessed with the dog beds at the moment. Doesn't care if they are sitting in them or not.
Newman is still very awesome with Lincoln. Always tolerates him in his face or "rubbing him" which really means smacking him upside the head sometimes. Baxter is not so much the fan of Lincoln hanging out where he rests which is why you don't see a picture of him and Lincoln together in his bed.
You turn away one minute and the next thing you know is that all of your magazines have been shredded.
Last came the DVDs and their cases. Lincoln did not see the point in having the cases on many of the DVDs nor did he like how we had them placed.

Easter pictures

Here are a few pictures from Easter Sunday. I have always heard that "its hard out there for a pimp" but I think my kids makes it look easy!

Spring Break at the cabin

We went to the cabin for a few days over my Spring Break along with my folks. It was great weather except for one rainy day while we were there. It was so nice to get away where it was quiet and relaxing. We were able to do some shopping in Boone and Blowing Rock as well as some hiking at Doughton Park. The temperature was so nice while we were there. It is always so depressing to see the temperature just rise and rise as you head down the mountain on your way home. Brad and I were stupid and decided that we would run from the cabin to the bottom of the hill and back and wow was that the most challenging 1.6 mile run I have ever experienced. Not sure if we will be doing that one again. Here are a few pictures from Spring Break!
We closed off the deck outside and let Lincoln run wild in his walker. He loved it!
One of my co-workers let us borrow their hiking backpack and Lincoln loved it! Anytime we would stop, Link would kick his feet in protest until we starting moving again. Brad and I also fell in love with the backpack...beats the heck out of carrying a kid in the Bjorn. We are currently searching for a gently used one of our own.
Yes, this is our son who passed out on the hike. No, that doens't look comfy to me but Lincoln found it adequate to sleep for about half an hour.

Lincoln is 1!

Lincoln turned 1 on March 30th and his birthday ended up being celebrated over the span of a week. His actual birthday was a pretty low key day and then we did a cake/singing little party on Easter sunday with family. It was a fun week where we learned that my "texture challenged" little boy isn't so much a fan of cake, is okay with the taste of icing, but loves banana pudding! Brad and I were talking last week and both agreed that this was the fastest year of our lives but has been so much fun. Lincoln is cruising around everything now. We have to be way more alert as to where he is all the time now. He is pulling up on anything he can now and is pushing his walking toys up and down the hallway now. Just the past week he FINALLY figured out how to sit himself up from laying down on his stomach or back (I know, we are surprised it took him that long as well). He is currently only doing this in his crib and is always out of the view of the camera so we are not sure how he does it yet but we know he can because he is standing there in his crib when we come find him. At his 1 year check up, Lincoln weighed in at a very heavy 19 lbs 4 ozs (5th percentile) and is 28.8 inches tall (16th percentile). His doctor seemed really pleased with his progress and thinks he will be walking on his own by 15 months. Here are pictures of Lincoln's birthday so enjoy!
Lincoln enjoying his swing constructed by my Dad and Brad. Its not an awesome picture of him but you get to see the whole swing. They did such a good job making it!
Lincoln's attempt at eating a cupcake...not wild about the cupcake but did enjoy the icing.
Someone experienced a sugar rush....
My aunt Shelly made Lincoln's cake. It looked so awesome! She also made our wedding cake for us back in 07'.
Attempting to play in the cake....
No longer a fan of playing with the cake...
Thank goodness for Banana Pudding!

Lincoln - The Anti-Crawler

So today is Lincoln's birthday and I promise to do a proper 1st birthday once all of the festivities are over but I wanted to share what he has been doing this past month. My son is officially "the anti-crawler." He will not crawl! Just refuses to do it. You may wonder...how then does he get around? My son has figured out that it is just as effective to roll to the places that he wants to go. He even likes to lay on his back and push his body back with his feet as well. I don't understand it but it is what works for him. So he basically needs to figure out how to get from his stomach/back to sitting up because he has the sitting to standing thing down now. He pulls himself up on everything that he can now and is currently cruising the furniture or on his walker. Now I know what you are thinking....doesn't it make since for a kid to crawl before he walks? Yes, in fact it does but I'm not really sure how you teach your kid to crawl. We try keeping him on his stomach to encourage him to crawl but he gets up on all fours then straightens his legs out and rolls. But at least he is getting pretty good at walking. I am pretty sure that this kid is going to run as soon as he figures out the whole balance by himself. When he holds our hands, he walks so fast. Here are some pictures of him cruising around stuff and a video. I promise that he doesn't hit his head at the end of the video.

Sorry the video is sideways...wasn't thinking about that when he walking for only the 2nd time with that walker!

Recent pictures of Lincoln

Sorry for the lack of blog posts lately. I have no good excuse except you tend to be a lot busier once you have a kid. Here are some pictures of Lincoln these past few weeks. It is amazing how he is really starting to look like a little boy now!

Blurry but hilarous!

Continuing the Step Brothers photo tradition.

Post bath tradition...the nightly mohawk!

He is getting close to posing like Lionel Richie. If you know us, then you know how we love to rock that pose anywhere we can.

Don't you wish these came in grown up sizes?

Although he isn't a fan of putting this on, he couldn't look more comfortable!!
